Mobile and Manufactured Home Inspections
What is the difference between a mobile home and a manufactured home?
Moblie homes were built Prior to June 15, 1976 and not built in accordance to any codes or guidelines. They were moved to site in sections on wheels and generally not financeable with lenders except for portfolio loans. Since these homes were not built to any specific code or published standards. HUD developed a standard which became law on June 15, 1976. These homes than became known as “Manufactured”.
In 1974, the National Mobile Home Construction and Safety Act was passed. In 1976, HUD (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development) created Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, which significantly changed the construction and safety of factory-built homes.
