Septic Tank Evaluation Inspection

If the home has a septic tank, there is an entirely different set of things to inspect. Unlike with a municipal sewer line, having a septic tank means storing sewage underground at your home. Because of this, the septic system must work well.

Malfunctioning septic systems can expose your family to significant health risks. Many people are also nervous that a septic tank will back up into their homes. It is much more likely, though, that it will overflow or leak into the yard. A septic tank percolates liquids slowly then disperses them into a drain field. However, if a septic tank gets too full, the solids can drain out of the container. Along with sounding disgusting, this disaster also leads to foul odors and unsanitary conditions.

Why You Need a Septic Tank Evaluation Inspection

Before you buy a home, it’s important to know the state of every system you are purchasing. A septic tank plays a vital role in the overall performance of your plumbing system and your property’s health and safety conditions. Because your septic tank is buried underground, a professional inspection is needed to thoroughly assess its condition, maintenance history, and likely future performance.

Septic tank problems are easy to avoid, but often costly to repair. You don’t want to move into a new property only to have to immediately consider major septic tank repair or even full system replacement. Scheduling a septic tank inspection prior to purchase will alert you to potential problems with the system that you can address with the seller before you obtain ownership of the property.

What does the inspection include?

During the Septic Tank Evaluation, we will locate and access the septic tank. We will identify what type of system the septic has as well as the size and material. We will inspect the inlet and outlet baffles and perform a flow test to ensure proper water flow through the septic system and to check for any blockages. We probe and inspect the tank for any cracks or leaks. We will measure the solids to indicate whether the tank requires pumping. When accessible, we will also inspect the condition of the distribution box. A written report with details, photographs and observations will be provided.

Camera Septic Inspection

We will perform a standard septic evaluation as outlined above, with the addition of using a fiber-optic camera to view and record the front and back plumbing lines to learn about potential clogging points. This type of inspection also allows us to locate and inspect the distribution box, including excavation of the box up to 24 inches when accessible. This allows us check for cracks, breaks, separations, and root intrusion in the lines. It will also provide a more accurate location of the septic system to be determined.
